Ohio Capital Budget Plan Seeks $2.5 Billion for Construction Projects

On Tuesday, December 8, Gov. Mike DeWine’s budget director unveiled a proposed $2.5 billion capital budget to fund construction projects, renovations, and equipment purchases around the state for the next two years.

The budget plan includes $452 million for colleges and universities, $310 million for K-12 school buildings, and about $281 million for prisons. About $500 million would go to the Public Works Commission.

A capital budget is usually passed by state lawmakers in the spring. But this year, budget plans were delayed by the coronavirus crisis and the resulting financial turmoil it caused for the state.
