Sherwin-Williams said Friday that it plans to break ground in the fourth quarter of this year on its new headquarters in downtown Cleveland and a new research and development facility in suburban Brecksville.

The Cleveland-based paint giant’s announcement also includes the first views of the plans it has for the sites, which are considered significant boons for the respective cities.

The company said in an updated Q&A section of the projects’ website that it intends to present and seek approval from Cleveland and Brecksville for designs for its planned 1 million-square-foot building at the west end of Public Square and a 500,000 square-foot campus off Interstate 77 in the second half of this year.

Sherwin-Williams has still not said what it plans to do with its current headquarters at Prospect Avenue and Canal Road and its current R&D facility in Warrensville Heights.

The paint giant has remained tight-lipped about its headquarters projects, preferring instead to gradually trickle news out since formally announcing the project in February 2020.
