Construction Employers Association and Habitat for Humanity Revitalize Greater Buckeye Neighborhood
A Cleveland family’s dream of a safe place to call home will soon be realized thanks to the generous support of 63 CEA contractors, Cleveland Building and Construction Trade Council partners, and affiliates who all sponsored and contributed material, labor and cash as part of CEA’s Habitat for Humanity project - with an estimated value of $210,000 in-kind donations.
The project kicked-off in April 2022 and was completed January 2023.
This fully funded, union-constructed home is the fourteenth Habitat home built on Grandview Avenue, and the eighty-third in the Greater Buckeye neighborhood. The quality, craftsmanship and quick turn-around by the union construction industry were first-class. Each Habitat home helps to boost the local economy and lower the crime rate in the neighborhood. This project is one example of how union construction remains committed to building communities and making a positive economic impact in Greater Cleveland.
“We'd like to express great gratification and thank you to CEA and all those affiliated with CEA, all the trades that worked at this project that spent their time and effort in providing what we do, and that is a safe and new home for those in need,” says Jerry Smith, Construction Director for Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity.
The home dedication ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Tuesday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the new Habitat home located at 10819 Grandview Ave, Cleveland Ohio 44104. Guest officials and neighbors are welcomed to attend.
The recipient, a mother of six, will be given the keys to her brand-new home at the event. In order to be selected, families go through a rigorous selection process, serve volunteer hours, and attend homebuyer education for 12-18 months. “This family is now in a safe and steady home, thanks to CEA and Habitat for Humanity,” says Peggy Sobul, Chief Development Officer for Habitat for Humanity. “Many families that seek Habitat for Humanity are either displaced from or living in a home of domestic violence, trauma, fear, or limited opportunity for growth. We typically serve 300-500 families each year.”
