How many years have you worked in the industry?

What attracted you to the construction industry and what do you enjoy most about your job? 

I've always been a very artistic individual. It was always easy to get gifts during the holiday because I was just happy to be gifted a new paint brush set. As I got older I started helping my dad with his carpentry business. It amazes me to see ideas on pen and paper come to life and I knew I wanted to be apart of something like that.

The part I enjoy the most in my job is the people I meet. There will always be someone who knows more about a certain topic then you. More times then none, these people are very passionate and are always willing to teach you and that is why I love my job. An industry that is willing to grow you as an individual is something I am grateful for.

Have you had any mentors throughout your career? If so, who were they and how did they help you in your career. 

My dad is my biggest mentor. I got interested with construction because he is a self employed carpenter. At a young age I helped clean up on some of his jobs and as I got older I started helping him with installing flooring and cabinets, painting, connecting electrical outlets., and etc. Anything that I asked him that I wanted to learn he was always willing to teach me. He never doubted my abilities.

What advice would you give other women that are considering or new to the construction industry? 

Do it! It's something that I got introduced at a young age and have loved it ever since. I never thought the construction world specifically could be for me, but once I got out of the stereotypical mindset of a women can't be in construction, I have done everything to get myself as integrated with the industry as possible. I did this by having multiple internships, going to industry events, and networking with individuals to reach my goals.

Tell us what you like to do in your free time or give a fun fact about yourself. 

I like to explore new places especially with friends. Whether it being a state, city, or even a new antique store. I love to just get out there and see what the world has to offer. Exploring can also lead to new hobbies. Some of my hobbies consist of hiking, reading, and crocheting!
