Florida Developer Plans Rehab Hospital in Independence

Body

Catalyst Healthcare Real Estate, a Pensacola, Florida-based developer, owner and operator of health care properties, has proposed constructing a $40 million rehabilitation hospital at 5711 Lombardo Center in Independence.

According to an application filed with the city of Independence, the 42-bed rehab hospital would be operated by PAM Health, an Enola, Pennsylvania-based provider of post-acute health care services. PAM operates more than 70 long-term acute care hospital and medical rehabilitation hospitals, as well as wound clinic and outpatient physical therapy locations. The 7-acre site of the proposed single-story building will be the subject of an Aug. 1 public hearing by the Independence Planning Commission.

A hospital use is not permitted under the office zoning of the site, so the developer needs approval as a conditional use by the city's planning commission and City Council. Independence granted such a conditional use last year for a proposed studio for Atlanta-based Gray Television Inc., operator of Cleveland stations WOIO, WUAB and WTCL.
