What attracted you to the construction industry and what do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoyed working with my hands in high school which lead me to going through the construction trades program at my local vocational school. When I sought out colleges, I discovered Bowling Green State University had an amazing Construction Management program that I fell in love with. I enjoy working with the field personnel to help get a better understanding of how to manage the projects being built.

Have you had any mentors throughout your career? If so, who were they and how did they help you in your career.

Yes, I worked as a project assistant under a project manager who was very helpful early on in my career. They were supportive in what I wanted to accomplish and helped create a plan that highlighted my goals. They made me feel comfortable enough to ask any question but pushed me out of my comfort zone so I could learn to take charge when needed.

What advice would you give other women that are considering or new to the construction industry?

Mentality is everything. Set goals early on and determine the stepping stones that are needed to achieve those goals. Network as much as possible to find mentors that will help you accomplish your goals along the way and advance in your career.
