How many years have you worked in the industry? 5 Years 

What attracted you to construction? Initially, the construction industry was not a career path I saw myself taking. It wasn't until I had the opportunity to co-op with The Ruhlin Company that I learned how diverse the construction industry can be as a profession. After spending a summer working in the field on a bridge project, I learned how much I enjoyed watching a project take shape before my eyes. 

What do you enjoy most about your job? There is a great sense of pride and comradery in construction. I am surrounded by coworkers who want to see me succeed and spend time teaching and educating me. I am constantly learning and growing in my construction knowledge, and it is largely due to my coworkers.

What advice would you give other women considering the construction industry? For anyone considering the construction field, my best advice would be to get out into the field and learn the work. Asking your foreman and field labor is the best way to learn the work you are performing and will benefit you in the long run. Even though it can be daunting, those will be the best relationships to form to help advance your career. 

What can be done to attract more women to construction? When it comes to women joining the construction industry, there is a plethora of skill sets needed to make up what we know as construction. In the field, there are different trades as well as management opportunity with foreman, superintendent, and project engineer staffing. On the office side, construction includes design, project management, estimating, project coordinating or consulting. No matter what your career goals or expertise is, there is a place within the construction industry for you.  

What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family and dogs, reading, and watching The Office.
