Women in Construction: Sabrina Fisher
Sabrina Fisher
Senior Project Engineer and Co-op Coordinator
Shook Construction
How many years have you worked in the industry? 4 years (6 if you include co-op)
What attracted you to the construction industry? I was always attracted to the construction industry because I grew up helping my dad with home renovations. It was a rewarding experience because when the project was done and you took a step back, and saw all of the hard work was worth it.
What do you enjoy most about your job? The part that I enjoy the most about my job is that every day on the jobsite you are guaranteed something different. There is never a dull moment in the construction industry.
What advice would you give other women considering the construction industry? Do it. Be confident in your abilities and at the same time do not be afraid to ask questions. This might be a male dominated field, but because us women are a minority, it has created a strong sisterhood.
What can be done to attract more women to construction? Construction has this stigma of being dirty and physical. We need to change this narrative, allow schools to have job shadowing days. In addition, offer more female social events.
What do you like to do in your free time? In my free time I enjoy renovating my house, spending time with my dog, reading, or yoga.
